Maximising sales using realtime product trends using Google Insight

Posted in Ecommerce, Internet Marketing, Website Conversion | Tagged , , | Leave a comment

The majority of website owners in the know recognise that keyword  research and keeping informed on online trends can be vital to their success and overall online presence. Knowing what your target market are looking at can help you create content and information that fills a gap and sends more customers to your site.

But what if you are selling things online rather then just providing content?

Online retailers are often perfectly placed to turn this kind of information directly into profit as soon as it happens. However, fortunately, there are only a handful of companies that fully monitor and gauge whats happening out there to maximise their sales.

Google Insights for Search

Not surprising, my first point was to Google to find the trends. It does take some poking around to find the data you want. Instead of comparing two terms, the secret to finding what products are currently “hot” online is to completely ignore the keyword selections and just select from the locations radio button. The results are interesting and allow you to specify categories which allows you access to a different niche. For example selecting ‘Technology’ showed that searches for ‘Windows 7′ were currently extremely hot in the trends, and that demand exists out there for this at the minute.

The other obvious advantage to this tool, is that you can specify regions, so if you only do business for certain products in certain parts of the world, you can drill down to find the popular products there and then.

Conclusion

Whilst instinct, attending tradeshows and personal taste are great ways of working out what to buy for next season, it also makes sense to supplement these decisions with the data from the wider internet community as well. Algorithms that exist on your competitors websites to maximise sales, can just as easily be turned around to your advantage and help you understand what is hot and what is not.

What ways do you best keep your finger on what products are making an impact?

Are you confident in your business or product?

Posted in Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing | Tagged , | Leave a comment

Being online, having a unique selling point and offering something different can be difficult as your competitiors are only a click away.

Not to mention that comparison shopping sites are appearing all around the web combined with social networking – you’d be right to think that it is just as competitive as seeling you product in the high street.

While everyone online is in a state of denial that there is any competition at all. Some companies are actually linking directly to their competition on their website.

There’s a saying that “when your competition is doing something wrong-  dont disturb them” – well in the age of Web 2.0 this could quite easily be turned around to “when your competition are rubbish – give your potential customers the key to their door and let them decide for themselves”.

Your potential customers will check out your competition anyway, especially when money is tight. You might as well take the approach that you have nothing to hide. I can’t see any major brands having the confidence to do this ( do you see McDonalds comparing themselves to Burger King openly ? ) That’s why you have to make your brand transparent.

Are you confident enough to put your competition on your website?

Google Instant Preview shows webpage previews in search before you click

Posted in Company News | Leave a comment

Google has been testing a lot of features lately to improve the user experience of people who search on Google’s search engine. The improvements are focused on delivering more relevant results to end users. The SEO industry needs to focus more on end user point of view and stick on to result oriented SEO principles as search is changing faster. The latest improvement is Google showing page previews in SERP’s. This improvement enables users to preview any webpage even before they actually enter into the page. It is assumed that the new feature Instant Previews is being rolled out to all users this week. The highlight of this feature is that searchers will start to see a small magnifying glass icon on the right side at top of each search result. You can now view the snapshot of the page before you actually choose the page. The snapshot will often have textbox with text from your search highlighted.

The new feature means a lot of webmasters and web designers as each website needs to be having a good design to maintain a higher CTR. If you start to notice less CTR rates then it is time to start thinking if your website design is making people stay away from your website and do you really need a website redesign to improve the user experience on your website.

Below is a video showing how to use Google Instant Previews

According to Google, Instant Previews should be available in 40 languages in the next few days.

5 reasons why you need a website

Posted in Company News | Leave a comment

Even in times where businesses are finding it hard to cope, people wonder why they need a website. Some excuses included “we don’t have a business” etc… Many people wonder why they need a website. Well here are 5 reasons why!!

1. Promote Your Products
A website allows you to showcase you products and services to your target market. You can talk about your benefits, inform your customers who you are, show some testimonials of happy customers that have used your product or service.

2. Promote Your Organization
People buy from people. People support organizations and causes that they believe in. A website is a fantastic tool to promote an organization and build trust – that is, if you do it right… A well-developed website can convey trust and credibility, making people to buy from you, or support you.

3. Promote Yourself
Whether you are a professional looking for a job, or an expert in your industry: you can show that to the whole world by having a comprehensive website. The use of an associated email address also increases perceived professionalism: a letter from someone at me-the-expert.com will certainly open more doors than an email from a hotmail account.

4. Promote Your Ideas
Political campaigns are now all over the web. A website can be a powerful way to promote your ideas, and build a following of like-minded people. Or you can just write online journals (“blogs”) to ventilate some of your thoughts and concerns.

5. Sell Your Organization
Whether “selling your organization” is a figure of speech (to convince people) or a true selling effort, a website can be considered a very valuable asset to your organization.

Using the right tools on your website

Posted in Company News | Leave a comment

When thinking about developing your website and how you can obtain revenue and business out of it, functions can help you obtain that objective. If you have spent any time online, you will know that the number of functions on a website are endless. Some are interesting and fun, however they may add little or no benefit to achieving your objective. Some functions can tend to confuse your target audience and use too many resources, both in terms of creating them and maintaining them .

Below are some functions and features that you might find useful when thinking about how to achieve the best out of your website.

  • User forum: Where people can help people, share ideas, and receive support from your business. While this particular function requires time to moderate and maintain, this can be an effective way to engage clients and generate some traffic on your website.
  • Social networking tools: Facebook, twitter, youtube, myspace, vimeo….the list is endless. If you use any of these tools effectively, you can reach thousands of new projects and keep in touch with existing clients.
  • Blog: an effective but sometimes time consuming way of finding new clients and interacting with current ones. A well written blog is a great way to build site traffic and share your knowledge of your business/trade/services.
  • Newsletter sign ups: in a similar fashion to blogging, it is a great way to build client loyalty, but it can take significant time to create valuable content and execute campaigns. Content from your blog can be used in your email. Some amazing tools for building newsletters are Eazymail ( which allows you to manage your customers and have a customized newsletter ) or constant contact.
  • Media Gallery: A picture is worth a thousand words and the same goes for displaying your work on your website. This helps your target audience get a feel for your product.
  • About Us: We humans are a curious breed. Tell your visitors about you. Don’t just have a name, but include a picture and a brief description of who you are. Start a relationship with visitors from the moment they go onto your website.
  • Free Stuff: Everyone likes free stuff, whether it be a discount, voucher, merchandise, newsletter…the list is endless.

These site functions are great, but there is a note of caution. Be sure to consider your site design, as you choose which ones to use. It’s important that each function will contribute to your specific site objectives. Often it’s best to begin basically and add function slowly, seeing which ones work and which ones simply consume time and money.
